We handle all logistics, from transpor My journey with an eating disorder has been filled with many ups and downs. Over the years I have struggled with many different behaviors such as binging, purging, overexercise, restriction of both fluids and food, and laxative and diuretic abuse. It has ravaged my body and mind and feels so comfortable, but I know it is not sustainable. Due to the fact that I'm writing this while in residential treatment for this I will mainly be touching on what they have taught and done for me in treatment. I highly recommend calling the number below to get more information as I am not a healthcare professional. I also due want to note this is a deadly disease and that anyone struggling with it should see a dietician to help meet their individual situation.
Anorexia
An eating disorder characterized by an intense restriction of food and sometimes fluid. Can also include an extreme calorie deficit putting your body in starvation mode.
Binge Eating
Binge Eating disorder is characterized as an eating disorder in which you eat excessive meals in one sitting. As I suffer from anorexia I recommend you reach out to NEDA for more information.
OverExercise Disorder
A disorder in which you overexercise your entire body causing muscle damage or you create a large calorie deficit using exercise. In my case this resulted in me suffering numerous muscle and bone injuries in addition to becoming malnourished.
Purging
An eating disorder characterized by purging by means of vomiting or laxatives to remove food from body. Purging can also be a behavior for people that binge or restrict. This can cause extreme heartburn, malnourishment, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, heart problems, and ulcers.
ED Treatment
Experience destinations with the expertise of our knowledgeable local guides who bring history and culture to l There are many different outlets of treatment that very on an individual basis I have learned. I have spent time at each level of care. I have spent time at all levels of care besides inpatient, so I will be speaking on my experience at each level.
Residential treatment
I have spent time at multiple residential treatment centers for ED Treatment. They have all taught me many things, but I will also share that you must go in with an open mind and motivation to get better. Additionally spending excessive time in a residential led to problems for me as I grew overly comfortable with that setting and level of support. It is also not necessary for every patient, and should be evaluated on a case by case basis. Residential is scary as you are putting your life while everyone else's life continues to move while you are gone. However if you need it it can also be the difference between life or death like my case. They provided me with a meal plan, medical monitoring, and support for when I was struggling to meet my meal plan. Not all residentials are the same however so prioritize choosing a place you will feel safe in.
Php
PHP provided me with a place to receive increased support while transitioning down to my normal life. I found it extremely helpful to continue PHP where I received residential treatment if possible. Additionally by going through the continuum of care I received the most support for transition down while receiving support to complete my meal plan on my own.
IOP
Choose from a variety of themes to match your interests, from history to cuisine. I never went fully through an IOP program and I believe this contributed greatly to my many relapses. Essentially they provide decreased support and monitoring while you complete your meal plan on your own.
outpatient
I highly recommend anyone in outpatient have a treatment team consisting of a doctor, therapist, and dietician to monitor signs of relapse. They can also hold you accountable and help you avoid an increased level of care in difficult times.
